Bountiful Blessings
April 21st, 2013
Ok. So I wear this bracelet that reads “I am second”. Just a three
dollar rubber band style bracelet. Black with simple white lettering. A friend
asked me why I wear it. He told me that being second means being the first
loser. Haha. While so encouraging and inspiring his sentiment may be, I think
he may have missed the mark. I am second.
Why do I choose to promote that I am “the first loser”? Question should be easy
to figure out. Because God is always number one. Always. There is no
discussion. No competition. He is the alpha and the omega. The beginning and
the end. I wear the bracelet to always remind me that God is first in my life.
Everything I do should be in honor and service to him. I should look to him
before proceeding. When you cross the road, you look both ways, right? Well,
when crossing the ol’ proverbial road, you should look up. Have I discussed
this with God? Am I making this decision based on prayer? Or is this action
based on biblical foundations? Or am I stepping off the curb blindly just
hoping that it all turns out okay and I make it to the other side. Life is too
important. You are too important to carelessly risk your life that way. Now
most likely you are thinking that you would not step out in traffic. I mean,
after all, you are not stupid. But have you ever stepped out there and THEN
wondered what God would have said or done. Buzzer sound. Wrong…
Well, in actuality, I am second is a movement. Here
is a little information from the website –
“I am Second is a movement meant to inspire people of all
kinds to live for God and for others”. “You are here for a reason. We all have
needs and could use some help.” “I am Second is designed to help people
discover their purpose in life. Have you discovered yours?”
The movement uses other people’s stories to inspire
you, to let you know that you are not alone. Here are a few examples (to read
their full story and watch their videos go to www.iamsecond.com):
Daniel Sepulveda (punter
for Pittsburgh Steelers)
He ripped it from me so I
would learn to be humble.
Darrell Waltrip (Nascar driver)
It was all about me.
Bethany Hamilton (professional surfer who lost arm to shark)
From what seems like such
a horrible thing, God has brought glory to himself through me.
Brian Welch (band – Korn)
I just felt so much love
fill my emotions.
Mike Huckabee (2008 presidential candidate)
When life is good, that’s
when I am most vulnerable.
Matt Elrod (Survivor cast member)
I was preparing for
domination.
ped it from me so that I would
learn to be humbleThese are just a few of many stories that can be found on the website. I encourage you to take a look. (I have just started the 22 day challenge).
I am second and it is a
really good place to be!
Bible verse for the week:I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5
