Bountiful
Blessings
January 5th, 2014
Good morning. Are you gearing up for some cold weather? Ooh,
better be digging out those long johns cause baby, its here. I don’t mind the
cold but I would like to see a little snow. I figure if I am gonna freeze,
there might at least be some enjoyment out of it. Well, its that time of year
again. Time to reflect on the previous year and plan for the next one. We make
resolutions. (Mine are generally close to the same every year – learn my Bible
better, eat healthier & exercise (lose weight), be a better person (this
one is always difficult), quit cursing (not that I cuss, noooooo…. Not me) and
quit worrying with my fingernails). And we break resolutions (I have already
broken one and it is only the 5th). But this year I am adding a new
resolution. And strangely enough, one inspired by Jimmy Fallon. Huh?
We were watching the Best of Jimmy Fallon, and of course for
a joke, he began writing Thank you cards to people, places or things. It was
kinda a funny bit. Anyways. I got to thinking about Thank you cards. So my idea
is this…. I bought a couple of packs of index cards and one of those plastic
index card boxes from Walmart. (Total investment about three bucks). Ok. So.
Every day I take a blank index card and write a thank you note to God. Can be
something specific such as ummm, Summer getting a job, or something vague like
the smell of grilling steaks. For each and every thing is a gift and I am
afraid that I do not fully express my gratitude. I thank him daily for his
presence in my life and for my family but there is so, so much more, isn’t
there? I will store these cards in my box and then I can occasionally pull them
out to refresh them in my mind. One a day. That will work. The box should hold
a year’s worth. The cards will help me truly express my appreciation of God’s
wonders all around me and to remember not to take it for granted. I know that I
am blessed. Each breath of each day is a blessing. (I am having difficulty
saying what I want to express. Imagine that. Me at a loss for words. Whoda
thunk?) But Im thinking….what about my favorite song that cheers me up or the
warmth of coffee heating my hands and my insides? Are these not things to be
thankful for? Imagine life without them. What about colors? What about
textures? You know that he could have made everything the same, right?
Everybody, everything. No colors, no tastes, no sounds, no touches. So why did
he? So intricate. So detailed. Back to my thought. A simple “Thank you, Lord,
for the beautiful colors found in the leaves; the reds, the greens, the golds,
the oranges. They amaze me with their glorious beauty. Each one a different
shade. A different pattern. A different texture.” “Thank you, Lord, for the
road crews who work hard to keep the roadways free of ice. They are often out
in the worst of the weather, away from their families, so that we may drive
safely to our designations. Please keep them safe.” See. Maybe examples can
explain better than my rambling explanation.
Today, I am thankful that I have the opportunity to speak
with you each week. “Thank you, Lord, for helping me to share with others
through Bountiful Blessings. Thank you for giving me the words to put on paper
to express my thoughts, my feelings and my concerns. May the message reach someone
who needs it each week.” Now, if I am ever stumped or lazy, I can pull this
little note card out and remember that I was grateful for this opportunity and
the impact that it has made on my life. J
May you be strong in your convictions and meet all of your
resolutions in 2014! Have a great week!
