Good morning! How are you on this fine Sunday
morning? It is Summer Rae’s birthday lunch. Yea! Celebrating 26 glorious years
of the best gift I ever received. J
But what I really want to talk about today is drum roll, please .…. fun. (No,
silly rabbit, not the band but I will give it to you, they are pretty awesome.) I am talking about full fledged, laughing till
you pee, who cares what people think, fun. You heard me. Fun. When is the last
time that you let loose and just had fun? I am not talking about “I had a good
time”. I am talking about fun. There is a difference. I mean,
I ALWAYS have a good time with Summer and Jim. I enjoy spending time with all my
family. But on Thursday, I had FUN.
I headed to Decatur Wednesday night and spent
the night with a cousin. We sat up late into the night chatting like we did
when we were teenagers. You could tell that I was enjoying myself by the fact
that my 40 year old self didn’t get sleepy. I could have stayed up all night.
(That sounds weird to you young ones but just wait…) Then we got up, had a
wonderful breakfast (chocolate and biscuits. Oh my. BEST THING EVER) and headed
to Point Mallard water park. I chased Cole around the Lazy River (not so lazy
trying to keep up with a laughing 5/6 yr old, is it?). I fought the waves with
Chloe in the wave pool (not a shred of fear in that one – 3 yrs old btw). I
burnt my poor body to a crisp with Ashley and shared laughs with Anita. It was
AWESOME. Hmph. You say, doesn’t sound like your thing? It doesn’t have to be.
Find yours. Let yourself go.
My mom and her sisters get together laughing
and telling stories. The years vanish. They are no longer in their 70s (whoops,
50s, I mean). They become teenagers again with bright smiles, laughter and the
worry lines fade even if only for a short time. Fun is the ultimate age eraser.
You feel like a kid again as the laughter escapes you. Please. Find your fun.
Life can be hard. There are challenges amidst our blessings. My wallpaper on my
computer has this saying “everybody wants happiness, no one wants pain, but you
cant have a rainbow, without a little rain.” Basically, Im saying that life is
about moderation, a sort of balance. God has plans for us. He loves us. He
wants to see us happy. Yes, there will be times that you ache with sorrow or
pain. He aches alongside us. He never ever leaves us alone in our suffering.
But he rejoices with us during the good times as well. And he wants us to have
good times. I truly believe this. Why else would he have created laughter??? It
is a way for us to express – fun. So please… find your fun. At home or on
vacation. With a child or a best friend. Something simple or something crazy
(lets try to keep it safe and legal. Wow. I sound like your mother). Forget
everything I have said and just have fun, ok?
Bible
Verse for the week:
“So I recommend having fun, because
there is nothing better for people to do in this world than to eat, drink, and
enjoy life. That way they will experience some happiness along with all the
hard work God gives them.”
Ecclesiastes 8:15 (New Living Translation)
