Bountiful
Blessings

Good
morning. I hope this beautiful Sunday finds you well. Predictions of rain, no
rain, ok, so its sunny, maybe I can do something outside after all, wait, here’s
the rain, there’s always tomorrow but nope, rain, wait sunshine, nope, rain.
Sigh. How about simply enjoying a quiet and lazy weekend at home? Sometimes
there is something to be said for easier.
Last week,
the world lost a shining star. His star is now glowing brightly in Heaven
surrounded by angels. A young man, still in college, a theater/dance major with
incredible talent, a brother, a son, a grandson, a friend. Your heart breaks
for his family. I cannot imagine, nor do I want to try to imagine, such a loss.
The loss is all ours. He has gained so much. The young man is dancing on
streets of gold today. Reveling in the beauty of Heaven. But as I walked around
campus last week, grief was abundant. Students were standing around, sharing
stories, crying, asking “why”. Faculty and staff were overheard bragging about
the young man; his joy, his passion, his talent. I did not have the pleasure of
knowing the young man but I watched a short video posted on facebook. He truly lit up a screen. Tomorrow, a
memorial will be held for this young man. Fellow theatre, dance and music
students will participate in honor of his life. His family will gather with
students and faculty/staff to remember him and to grieve for him. Our loss is
Heaven’s gain. Can’t you imagine a young, smiling, dancing angel looking down
and reminding us that one day we can meet again?
Today I
think about my petty grievances. My snarkiness. My impatience. My temper. What
if today was my last day? Nickelback has a song titled “If today was your last
day?” The first two lines are – “My best friend gave me the best advice. He
said each day's a gift and not a given right”. Absolutely. A gift. Not a gift
to squander away. A gift to treasure. Would I want to be remembered by these nasty traits or
would I want to leave a legacy of love? LaKim left a legacy of love.
Bible verse for the week:
“Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to
him with timbrel and harp.”
Psalm 149:3
Prayer for the week:
Dear Lord,
Our time
in our earthly home is numbered. Our moments are few. But our heavenly home is
forever. Last week, a beloved young man left his earthly home to join you in
his Heavenly home. The angels rejoiced as he danced through the gates. We mourn
for our loss but celebrate his gain. To spend eternity with you, what a gift.
We ask for comfort for his family. To lose a child is devastating. A grief that
is hard to overcome. Please place your loving hands upon them. Cover them in
your healing presence. For you, and only you, can offer true comfort in times
like these. May we always remember that one day we shall meet again in the home
that you have prepared for us. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
