5.27.12 power of silence

Hello from Bowling Green, Kentucky! The fam and I have taken a little post graduation celebration trip. So happy! I have been talking non-stop. Summer and Jim are SO ready for me to be quiet. Haha. I know that is a shocker for you. Terri? Talk a lot? What? Nooooo…… Well, it did get me to thinking. Yep, even when I am not talking, my brain is talking! The power of silence. Now I may not have experienced it personally but I hear great things about it. Through silence, you can hold back those nasty thoughts that threaten to come out of your mouth. Through silence, you can give others a chance to speak and be heard. Through silence, you can stop talking and actually listen to God. Whew. That one, well, actually all of them, but that one really hits home for me this week. I was speaking with a friend about the direction of my life. I told her that I had been praying but I was still confused. I know that God has plans for me but was I imposing my views/ideas/plans on his? The answer was not clear. Well, duh. It was because I am not quiet long enough to actually hear what he has to say. Prayer is wonderful but it is not enough if I chatter non-stop and do not take time to listen. Our relationship cannot be all one-sided. (Hmph. Right now, many of my friends are shaking their heads thinking that I should consider that not only in my spiritual life but with them. Sorry, guys. I really am. I do not intend to be a conversation hog!) So for today, I encourage you to take a few minutes to sit quietly, stop the crazy thoughts running through your mind and take deep breaths. (Yes, I am aware this is called meditation. Thanks though, smarty britches). An open mind and a closed mouth. Let God speak.
            My prayer –
Dear Lord, please help me where I struggle – knowing when to talk and when to keep my mouth shut. I am weak but with your help, I can overcome and bathe in the beauty of silence. So that I may hear your words and follow your guidance. Thank you, Lord. Amen.
