4.15.12 faith... and questions

Good morning, friends. I hope that this beautiful day finds you well. This weekend has found me waking up to blue skies with a gentle breeze. Great time to drink a cup of coffee on the deck and read a little. I have been reading through the Left Behind Kids series. (yep, you heard me. The teenager ones. Finished the adult ones years ago and have reread since then. Thought I might like these too. And I do!) Anyway. Basic premise of the story. Four teens from 12 to 16 were “left behind”. Two of the teens were churchgoers. One of the teens parents were saved but she wasn’t and the other teen was completely out of the loop. Six parents and family members gone. Poof. And the other boy… well, his parents died in the aftereffects. So these four kids quickly come to understand what happened. It was all prophesized in the Bible and both parents and their pastor had been foretelling of the future. The kids come together full steam ahead to learn and to witness to others. I know. I know. Its just a book. You cannot replace the Bible with a fiction work. I am not trying. You know me. I beat around the bush sometimes before I get to my point. Ok. I get it. You want me to finally get there. Well, the book made me think about faith. Faith …. and questions.

Faith and questions do not seem to go together, do they? But they do. Sometimes questions make your faith stronger. God does not ask you to simply have blind faith. He wants you to get to know him. No. no. no. You may not always understand his reasons, but you do have to trust him. But without questions, how will you learn? Your faith will grow stagnant and you will be unable to help others. Am I making sense at all? Ok, so we read the Bible. Why? To learn God’s word. To familiarize ourselves with God, his promises and his expectations. It is not enough to simply say “I believe in God”. We have to learn to have a relationship with him. Ok. I figured out how to explain myself. You have a best friend, right? Do you know his/her favorite color? What he/she likes to eat? What makes her/him happy or sad? That is because you have a relationship. You have learned about them in order to get to know them better. Otherwise, the relationship would be a very shallow one. You with me so far? Now take the most important person in your life. God knows everything about you. So shouldn’t you learn about him? Shouldn’t you strengthen your side of it or is the relationship all one sided? If it is, you may need to rethink your relationship.
Faith. Believing in God without proof  - without seeing, touching, smelling, hearing, tasting. “We live by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7

Bible verse for the week:

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him.
1 Peter 1:8-9
