Additional note:
Yesterday, I wrote this devotional/Bible Study about being thankful for the gift of time. I woke up this morning at 330 to a phone call from Summer. I talked with her as the storms raged outside her house. We talked about the possibility of danger until she took cover in the bathtub. It seemed like just a minute later when her screams of anguish came through the phone as a tornado struck the house. A door flew off the hinges and protected her from the trees that fell on the house, or should I say through the house. The bed where she had laid only minutes before - gone under a tree and piles of rubble. She was trapped in the bathroom by trees and falling roof until Jim and two neighbors were able to pull her out approximately 1 ½ hour later. As I viewed the destruction, I fell apart. The neighborhood looked like a war zone. Power lines down, trees on houses and across the road, people wandering up and down the street checking on others. We lost our house, all its contents, our car, our camper, and our shed. Yet, Summer and both cats walked away without a scratch. No one in our neighborhood was injured. We had all been granted a miracle. Time was indeed a precious gift from God. One he wrapped and presented to me today. Only through God’s loving protection did Summer survive the tornado. So when God tells me what to write, he knows that one of us needs to hear it. I guess, maybe, this week I needed the reminder. Thank you, God, for the gift of time!
Please continue to pray for Summer and all the other families struck by this tragedy. Please say a special prayer for the family of the 16 year old girl who lost her life in Clay. May God’s comfort and strength wrap them in his loving arms.
