5.13.12 thank God for mothers

Good morning and Happy Mother’s Day. Today I thank God for my mother, my aunts, my grandmothers, my cousins, and my friends. For all the beautiful women in the world, thank you. For those of you who were unable to have children or simply chose not to, thank you. For despite what you think, you mother someone as well. And a huge thank you to God for my daughter, She is my greatest blessing in life.
We were not hatched. We did not instantaneously appear. We were given life by a mother and a father. God chose us and chose our parents. Why? He could have given us life in any form or fashion he chose. Instead, he chose to give us life through love. The love of a mother and father. Mothers love us when we are the size of a quarter. They love us when they hear that scratchy heartbeat at the doctors office and see that blurry image on the sonar. Mothers love us as they cry out in childbirth pain. They love us through teething, through ballgames, dating and learning how to drive. Mothers cry with love and joy as we walk down the aisle and when we become moms ourselves. I am 46 years old and my mother loves me with all her heart. I have no doubt. And I feel the same. But with joy, there is pain. As today rolls around, my heart breaks for those whose Mothers have already left to be with Jesus. (Jim, my mom and her sisters/brothers, Mary/Alexis, Anita/Gary/Wayne, Tina/Gary, Bradley….) Your mother may have gone to be with God but she is smiling down upon you today with all her love. Her body is not here but her love never left you! God had a reason for taking her home. A reason that we may never understand. And she misses you as you miss her. But she is happy. She is with the Lord. The Lord who loves us so much that he offers us the chance at Heaven. A chance to be together again. A Lord who loves us so much that he GAVE up his son for us.
            My prayer -
Thank you, Lord. Thank you for sending your son to die on the cross for me. Thank you for giving me the promise of eternal life. Thank you for giving me my mother and father. Please help me to be a good son or daughter to both my earthly parents and to you. I love you, Lord, with all my heart and soul. Amen.
Bible Verse for the week -
Surely goodness and love will follow all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.    Psalm 23:6
