Good morning! In case you didn’t know, Summer and I graduated this weekend. (haha. What a joke. Astronauts in the space shuttle know we graduated. Random people on the street as I walked up and said “hey, Im Terri, Im graduating from college”. I got a lot of weird looks btw. I shouted it from the belltower and danced around barefoot singing it. Once again, more weird looks). Now the really odd part is that I work at a university where almost everyone has a degree. Many with graduate degrees. So why am I so proud? Clearly, I am nothing special. Its simple yet difficult to explain. See, I do not use others to value my worth. My accomplishments are my own. My failures, my own. We place too much emphasis on comparisons to others. Am I as good looking? Can I sing as well? Am I as smart as her? Is my house as nice as his? Who cares?? Really?? What is important is that you are doing YOUR best. Not someone else’s. God asked your best of you. He does not ask you to be someone else. He made you special. He made you unique. So why would he want you to be someone else? We place that extra burden upon ourselves. We. Whenever we focus on “we” and not “him”, well, things aren’t always so good, you know? So today, be happy with yourself, your accomplishments, your successes and your failures. Be your own person and be proud of who you are!
My prayer -
Thank you, Lord. Thank you for making me unique in your image. For giving me strengths and weaknesses. For giving me hope. For giving me plans for the future. Please help me, Lord, if I begin to make comparisons and especially for feeling that I am coming up short. The only person I should aspire to be is you, O Lord. I love you with all my heart and soul. Amen.
