2.5.12 children

Children. Those beautiful, sweet, funny, dirty, screaming, loveable little angels. Some of us have them; some do not. But all of us at one time were one. It doesn’t take me but just a minute to tell you that my child was my greatest blessing. She is the love of my life. Now don’t get me wrong, she drives me nuts sometimes. She can be argumentative, lazy, sassy, …. But at no point does my love for her change. I would lay down my life for her.

Ok, so why am I talking about this today? Because I want to show the depth of a parent’s love. Think about your mom or dad for a minute. Did they guide you? Did they discipline you? Did they teach you morals and values? To respect your elders? To be responsible and make good choices? Did they love you unconditionally?

Now we are getting to my point. (About time, huh?) YOU are a child of God. He is your heavenly father. So figure how much your parents loved you or how much you love your child. Then figure that you are human with human imperfections. Now take that love but remove the imperfections. Hard to comprehend, isn’t it? We are beautiful, sweet, funny, dirty, screaming, loveable little angels. And at no point does God’s love for us change. He would, AND DID, lay down his life for us. He guides us. He disciplines us. He teaches us morals and values and to respect our elders. He teaches us to be responsible and make good choices. Do we disappoint him? Absolutely! Do we anger him? Absolutely! We generally drive him nuts sometimes. But his love is unwavering and unconditional. It is by his example that we learned what it means to be a parent.

Today, take a moment to hug your child or your parents. Tell them you love them. Think about God’s unwavering love for you. And you know how you always hated to disappoint your parents? Well, as an adult, while those values are ingrained, we do not always think about the disappointment. Today, think about it. Only think about disappointing your heavenly father. Try your best. Be responsible. Make good choices. Be respectful. You get the picture. J

Bible verse for the week:
Psalm 139:13-16  For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
Bible fun for the week:
Let’s see how many children of the Bible you can name:
1)    My father was going to sacrifice me to the Lord
2)    I slay a giant with rocks
3)    I was placed in a basket and put in the river
4)    My brothers sold me into slavery
5)    My parents lost me but I was preaching in a temple at the time
