1.29.12 need help

It has been a tough week. Lots of things to do. Lots of things on my mind. So for this week, I am going to share one of my favorite devotionals. When life begins to stress me or I feel stretched thin, I can always read this prayer and find peace in the Lord. Hopefully you will not need it but if you do…

“God,
I need some outside help tonight. I want so much to be free, but I don’t feel free. I know it all in my head that your life is living in me, that my life is a miracle, but in my heart it seems as if life is pressing in on me and squeezing me, until I feel empty and limp. Free.. What can that word mean when my life belongs to so many other people, when I get squeezed between the generation gap and the tax bill, and I want to walk out of the door and keep on walking and never stop… then what does it mean to be free? God, I need some help outside myself tonight.”                                                                        (Gladis and Gordon DePree)

Sometimes I need a little help. Let me rephrase that. I always need a little help. Sometimes I need a little more. Today I snapped at my dad for no good reason. (Yes, I am a little ashamed about that.) All of this following the week, I said that I was going to treasure every moment. And you know? I have. I have not taken one day for granted. Summer’s experience has made every minute of my life a blessing. Yet, I still need help. I know it. I have not been handling the stress very well. And I do not want to be that person. I really do not want to be that person (Dad, Im sorry). But I cannot do it alone. It is a good thing that I do not have to. My Lord is always with me, always supporting me, always guiding me. I need some outside help tonight.

Bible verse for the week:

“Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.”    Hosea 6:3

Thought for the week:

We all need some outside help sometimes. Its ok. Really.

Bible fun for the week:

Naked Truth
1. What prophet walked around naked for three years?
2. Who went naked as a way of wailing over the fate of Jerusalem?
3. What king of Israel, struck with the power to prophesy, stripped off his clothes and lay naked for a whole day and night?
4. What father lay naked and intoxicated in his tent, which so disturbed his sons that they came and covered him?
5. In war, what persons were often humiliated by being stripped?
Names Made in Heaven
1. What did God change Jacob’s name to?
2. Who was told to name his son Solomon?
3. Who was told by an angel that his son was to be named John?
4. What did God call his human creation?
5. Who told Mary that her son was to be named Jesus?
