11.6.11 remembrance of a loved one

Hello and Roll Tide. (Oops – that may not have been appropriate for the beginning line of a Bible Study ). Today brings us sweater weather, beautiful fall leaves cascading in shades of red, gold and orange.  Another glorious season has begun. That made me think of my topic (scary, isn’t it?).

Season. It reminds me of many things. You hear people speak of friends in your life for a season, we have the four seasons of the year and we have the seasons of our lives. A treasured uncle passed away last week and a dear friend lost her father. Both gentlemen lived a full and rich life, well-loved by many. My uncle was mid 70s and my friend’s father was in his 80s. Does it make it easier that they were older? Not for their families. They will still be missed every day. Yet, God knew that it was their time; their “season” had arrived. Beauty can be found even in the most desolate of times: in winter, we see the kalideoscope of ice crystals and the pure white of snow. With our lives, we often get the privilege of viewing the beauty of the winter of our lives. When material objects do not matter, when we realize what is the most important – not money or power but our families. When a loved one’s season arrives, we grieve for ourselves. We lost a loved one – with Uncle John and Mr Burns, we lost a father, a husband, a grandfather, a friend. But them? Right now, they are dancing around to the music of angels, gazing with awe at the sight of the heaven and bowing down before the Lord. We cannot comprehend the joy. And though no one wants to leave our earthly home, ultimately, we all want to join him. We all want to experience the joy of Heaven for ourselves. To meet the Lord, to reunite with loved ones. I cannot wait to see my grandparents, my aunt, my cousin, my friends and even my special pets.

So after that long and lengthy paragraph, I would like to ask each of you to take a moment in remembrance of a loved one’s life. Remember the special times. When she cooked you that grilled cheese after school and sat down with you to ask you about your day. When he took you in his car and teased you about being his girlfriend. When he held your hand and told you how proud he was of you as he took his last breath. Yes, it is incredibly sad but you know what, these memories are invaluable.

Verse for the week:
John 14:1-4 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.”
