10.27.13 I love words!!! Reading, writing, talking, the whole bit.

Bountiful Blessings

October 28, 2013

Raindrops on blah, blah… whiskers on kittens. Blah, blah, and warm woolen mittens. Brown paper packages tied up in string, these are a few of my favorite things. Well, my favorite things have always been words. I love to read. I love to write. And of course, I love to talk. So imagine my distress that words are becoming more and more elusive. Major shudder. It will be right there. I can see it teasing me at the corner of my mind. But right about the time I am going to grab it. It runs away laughing like a child. This is not a game. Get back here.

So I do what I do when I am in trouble. “SUMMER!!!!! Help me. You know that word that means this…” and she may guess for a second or two before she hit’s the right one but she hasn’t let me down yet.

Ok, so I have exposed my weakness and my vanity. My love of words. I can lose my eyesight and my hair. Sad but livable. But words? Ouch. But seriously, we all have something in life that we love (besides family) and hold on to for dear life, right? It could be your looks, your money, your house, your career. Losing it… well, you wonder how you could go on. But its all jus’ a thang. The one steady thing in our lives that will never change, that we will never lose and will never let us down, yep, you got it right in one. God. God is not concerned that I cannot remember the words of the Sound of Music. God thinks we are beautiful when we are fat or bald, toothless or blind. God would love us penniless and living in a shelter. He will never, ever, ever let us down. Sadly, it is us who let him down. Often. But even then, he does not forsake us. He stands by us waiting to offer us a hand. To offer us another chance.

But that is not all that I would like to say this week. I have a strange request. I was thinking about God offering me his hand and I would like to offer one to someone else. Please see the enclosed stamped envelope. I would like for you to send ONE dollar to a charity of your choice. Totally and 100% your choice of where, do you feel passionate about mission work, the homeless, finding a cure for cancer, aids, leukemia, foster children, feeding the world, its what is in your heart. I know that money is tight but I think each of us can spare a dollar -  just give up a coke today. This newsletter goes out to several people. If we all give a dollar, well, I believe it does make a difference. (I am trying to decide where my money is going. I am leaning towards Alzheimers or a literacy fund. Pretty sure that Summer will go with an animal fund. What is your choice???)

Thought for the week:

I may not remember everything but I never forget that God loves me!

Prayer for the week:

Dear Lord,

I would like to make a difference. Instead of being led by my weaknesses or my vanity, I want to be led by the spirit of kindness and generosity towards others. I pledge this small offering in your name to help others in need. I ask this in your name. Amen.

Bible verse for the week:

This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confessions of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else.   2 Cor. 9:12-13
