Bountiful
Blessings
June 16, 2013
Good morning! How is your wonderful Father’s
Day? I get the pleasure of spending the first part of my day in conversation
with my Heavenly Father and then head to lunch with three of my favorite
earthly fathers (Dad, Jim, Robbie). I am so blessed to have such good men in my
life. J But my blessings go on and on…. My angel
turns 26 this week. (How can she be getting so old when I am not? Hmmm.
Question of the century.) Life is good, no, life is great. And am I making the
best use of it? Mmmm, no.
Life is not all roses and rainbows, love
stories, the first steps of a child. Sometimes life is dirty and unappealing.
There are wars and famine. Sickness and suffering. Losses that bring
unimaginable pain. In Birmingham alone, we have people living under the
interstate in cardboard boxes and women who sell their children for drugs.
These things shouldn’t be happening. Its inconceivable the wrongs that are
happening in todays society. What??!!
And what am I doing? What contribution am I
making to help the situation? First and foremost is prayer. There can never be
enough prayer. But then I, as an individual, need to practice what I preach. I
need to pray, I need to spread the word of God and I need to be his hands. I
need to discover my passion and then act on it. Do I feel strongly about
diabetes? Cancer? Child abuse? Animal abuse? Slave trade? Homelessness? Hunger?
The possibilities are endless, and I have to find my “fit”. To once again quote
Nickelback, If everyone
cared and nobody cried, If everyone loved and nobody lied, If everyone shared
and swallowed their pride, Then we'd see the day, when nobody died. The video
for the song is wonderful. It shows how a single person CAN make a difference.
Oh, I am not saying that you or I are the next Nobel Peace Prize winner. I
mean, even I am not that confident in our abilities and I think pretty high of
you. But I KNOW that you can make a difference. And you know what? So can I. J
So today, I ask you to give it some thought.
I have a cousin who was passionate about children in foster care. Today she is
the proud mother of an adopted son. I can only guess that she was not expecting
that a few years ago. But see, one person can make a difference. She made a
difference to that little boy. He will now grow up in a steady home filled with
love. You never know what kind of impact you can make or on whom. You may never
even see the impact you made. But somewhere… somehow… you did. God filled your
heart with love – go share it with someone else.
Bible
Verse for the week:
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or
conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own
interests, but also to the interests of others.” Phil. 2:3-4
