Bountiful Blessings
September
16th, 2012
Hello
friends and family. Pray this letter finds you well. J Last week, I was trying to talk about
strength but I may have gotten a little off track and well, saddened everyone.
So, today I want to take a different path and highlight some of the past and the “bright side of life”.
For some of you, you will not recognize the following people/memories but
maybe, just maybe, it will spark a memory of your own and bring a smile to your
face.
Aunt
Eloise:
taking my brother to the store for “milk” and coming back with him a toy. Really? You just always
happened to be out of milk when we came for a visit?
Sherrill: taking a preteen me
out in his car and making me feel like the most special girl in the world.
Problem is that he listened to me for directions. His mistake.
Ace:
you
told my dad that you were going after to work to buy these special worms. He
went during the day and bought them all up to aggravate you. Yes, I know that
he was mean to you but he loved you.
Wallace: my dad loved to go
visit you and Irene. He would always talk about taking you Miss Myra’s chicken
and going fishing.
Mamaw: sleeping with you
and rolling towards you in the bed. You were, and continue to be, the best cook
that I have ever known.
Papaw: sitting on the
porch, watching you roll cigarettes. Not a word was spoken. Not a word was
needed.
Aunt
Lorene:
ummm, your chocolate and biscuits, ummmm…..
Clara: You and Summer
riding in the car listening to Moldy Peaches.
Glenda: fixing Summer
hamburger steak, pinto beans and cornbread. She loved spending time with her
Granny. I cannot see anything shiny and well, somewhat tacky, without thinking,
hmmm, Glenda would like this.
Larry: You and Christie
were the epitome of the perfect couple. I never saw the two of you when you did
not have your arm around her. Such love after so many years.
Phillip: the first time we
met, you asked me what blows up your dress? Well, call me Mr Wind.
Lisa: I cannot see the
commercials with the Dirty Jobs guy without thinking of you. You told me that
you thought he, Toby Keith and Kid Rock were hot. What??? How did Kid Rock get
in there?
Granddaddy: Every time he would
come for a visit, he would give me and Robbie a quarter. As we got older, we
got $2 bills. Inflation, you know.
Chris
Feigl:
the way that you talked about Ann and the kids. Your face would light up. And I
remember you told me that you were in the best shape of your life. You just
never know, do you?
Janie: You always planned
the best parties for Mary, like he 50s party with the poodle skirts. Mary is
following in your footsteps. She does a great job.
Imogene: You forgot Summer
at school one time. Haha. Its been years and she still laughs about it. Wasn’t
so funny back then.
Claude: Ask me my name.
Pudding tane. Ask me again and Ill tell you the same. You may have said that to
Summer once or twice.
Joe: Summer sitting with
you on the back porch watching and feeding the squirrels.
Joey: A VERY AWKWARD
moment when he, umm, began to talk about his “love life” with Summer.
Mr.
Allison:
spending time at your house. Eating spaghetti! And wow, Chris looks just like
the Mr. Allison that I remember.
Chad
Pryor: swinging
on the tire swing in the back of the house. The laughter. The friendship. My
brother named his own son after you.
I
have so many more memories of so many more loved ones. Memories are a
gift from God. They allow us to keep our loved ones close. Do you have
special memories of someone? Sean? Casey? Brandon? A grandmother? A
grandfather? A mother? A father? A relative? A friend? Embrace the memories.
Instead of being sad, think about the memories with a smile and maybe, even a
laugh.
Bible
Verse for the week:
Jesus
answered him, “I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise.” Luke 23:43
Prayer
for the week:
Dear
Lord,
Thank
you, Lord, for the time that you gave me with the ones that I love. Each
moment, each memory was a gift. Today, I know that they are in a better place.
A place that you prepared especially for them. I still miss them. Badly. But I
pray to one day join them in my heavenly home. Until then, may I continue to
make new memories with those who love me. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
Thought
for the week:
Go
out today and make some new memories with someone that you love.

Footnote:
Eleven
years ago, the world stopped under the weight of America’s tragedy. People stood where they were and watched the television
with tears running down their faces. We mourned for the victims and their
families and we mourned for our country. The tragedy brought people closer
together and closer to God. Men and women joined the service to prevent such
tragedies from ever occurring again. Where are we today? We remember 9/11 and
its victims. We remember the lives lost on that fateful day. “We will never
forget” are not just words carelessly tossed around. But do you remember how
you felt towards your fellow man? Do you remember how you felt towards God? He
was our strength and comfort in times of trouble. The troubles are not over.
Turn back to God. He will never leave us or forsake us. We need him now more
than ever.
