6.10.12 Family - God's special gift

Family. What a special gift! I had the honor and the pleasure of spending the day with extended family in Russellville. I do not get to see everyone often enough and sadly, we have already lost so many. So each time we get together is a memory in the making. Cousins, aunts, uncles and lots of good food (What is it about us and food??!!) Oh, we are a motley bunch. We have our flaws (right now, my mom would like me to clarify that I MUST be talking about the rest of the family. I COULDN’T be talking about her.) But the flaws are nothing compared to our strengths. Kindness, thoughtfulness, generosity, humor, loyalty… well, you get the picture. My family is pretty special. And why wouldn’t they be? God picked us out and placed us together. We are a beautiful tapestry that he wove with his own hands. He took individual strands and created a masterpiece.
Ÿ  The cousin with the stories. His smile, his dry delivery - he brings tears of laughter to your eyes.
Ÿ  The cousin who is both beautiful inside and out. She just doesn’t see it like the rest of us do.
Ÿ  The aunt with the fierce loyalty and devotion. From a child bride, the love has only grown stronger.
Ÿ  The husband with all the right words. Really?? “She gets more beautiful.” Oh, I agree, don’t get me wrong, but wow.
Ÿ  The children with their laughter and their smiles.  The beauty queen - the golfer - the ball player - the little angel - the big brother - the handsome teen with the pretty eyes. All of them so special. And so are your parents. You can see the excellent parenting when you see your kids. J
Ÿ  The quiet cousin who sits by herself but when she smiles, she lights up a room.
I have just mentioned a few. My family is so much more. Each one amazing and beautiful and smart and kind. Am I the only one with such a family? Oh no, no, no. As I write this, I am aware that each of you have blessings and stories of your own. Husbands, wives, children, grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews…. And aren’t they wonderful??? Family is truly a gift from God. He chose to surround us with people to love. Family. What a special gift!
Prayer for the week –
Dear Lord, thank you for my family, for those still with us and those who have gone before us to be with you. Help us to appreciate each other. Teach us to love without judgment or criticism.  Each precious moment is a gift, Lord. May I thank you each and every day for this special gift. Amen.
