Ok. So, I am tired. Really tired. To whine a tad – school is kicking my tail; work, well, we will not go there; parents’ health worries me, mmmm, quite a bit; people bickering all the time; I have been sick….. you get the picture. Tired. (and whiny! J) So today, lets take a different look at things, ok? I want to talk about a book. Yep, a book Ok. A couple of you tuned out immediately. But give me a sec. The Gospel according to the World’s Greatest Superhero by Stephen Skelton. It gives a comparison of Superman and Jesus. Yep, yep, yep. Mr Skelton tells us that he believes the author of Superman intentionally wrote Superman in the image of Jesus. For example…
· Superman and his father have the same last name - El, which means "God" in Hebrew.
· The original first names for Superman's parents were Mary and Joseph.
· The villain Lex Luther sounds much like Lucifer of the Bible.
· Superman and Jesus both experience death, resurrection and a return, or second coming.
Now, I went to a couple of blogs and such on the internet and here is what another guy had to say.
A man of great and unimaginable power and wisdom sends his one and only son to a kindly couple incapable of giving birth to a child. They later find out that around time the boy begins to become a child he demonstrates wisdom and tasks beyond that of any mortal man. It is later recognized that this child will grow up to become one of the most powerful and influential man of all time as he stands up against evil. Now, who did I just describe, Superman or Jesus?
Some people do not like the comparison. Superman is a made up character for enjoyment. We cannot confuse the two. However, you may be able to use the comparisons to tell your friends about the greatest superhero of all time. The one that lived and died – for you.
