Today I got out my pen and paper (yes, I do it old school then I type it) and I was really dragging. Feeling a little lazy. Not in the mood. Got a headache. Excuses. Excuses. And then God gave me that little nudge. I cant really explain how you know when its him. You just know, right?
So I guess that I will talk today about laziness. He “suggested” that I get off my lazy tail and use my excuses to talk with others about it. Yep, you heard me laziness. And don’t even act as if this doesn’t apply to you! We’ve all experienced it at one time or another. Some of us, ….well, we won’t go there. J
Wikipedia defines laziness as “Laziness is a disinclination to activity or exertion despite having the ability to do so. Related terms for a person seen to be lazy include couch potato, slacker, and bludger.” Haha.
Ok, so now we know what laziness is. The Bible is ABOUND with verses relating to laziness. Lets pick out some.
Ouch. God makes it pretty clear that we need to work. Ok. So I do work. I get up every weekday morning and trudge off to work. Does that count? Well, only partially. For God does not mean that a paying job dissipates laziness. Laziness also applies to our free time. For we are meant to take care of our home and our families as well. Oh, a little me time is fine. Its when the me time overwhelms the work time. Our lives are meant to be centered around God and serving him through all deeds. When we spend all our times in front of the tv, asleep or on the computer, how are we serving him?
So, think about your day and how you spend it. Do you spend a few minutes in prayer and devotion each day? Do you go to work or school? Of course, you need a little time to eat, sleep and take care of those duties we do not talk about in public (unless you are a teenaged boy and of course, then it is hilarious). So what about the rest of the day? Do you clean? Cook? Help a neighbor? Do you work on your homework? Or do you play computer games all day? Sleep all day? Wear your pajamas all day? Read all day? Haha. All of us are cringing right now….
Bible verse for the week:
(Colossians 3:23-24) “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.”
Bible verse trivia:
Ok. A little something different… how many of these can you identify? And if you do not know them, how about looking them up? It will just take a second…. That’s it. Work through that laziness. You can do it!
· John 11:35
· Jeremiah 29:11
· 1 Corinthians 10:13
· Philipians 4:13
· John 3:16
Great job! And for those of you who looked them up, you also get a great job! For those of you, who just threw the paper down, well, you may want to start back reading at the top. I think you missed the point. J
Until next time!
